Would this be a good topic for a college essay?

I want to write about how my dad has been permanently disabled since I was 7 years old and how it affected my childhood and shaped the person who I am today. I will also incorporate how his disability inspired me to become a doctor so I can help others. Do you think this is a different topic? I know that the admissions officers read the same stuff over and over so I'd make my application stick out from the bunch. What do you think?
